Our research has three main themes:

Bilingualism

We explore the relationship between experience using multiple languages and other aspects of cognition.

Language Processing

Some of our work focuses on specific sub-components of language use, for example the ability to form expectations for the meanings of upcoming words during reading.

Cognitive Control

Some students in the lab also work on research projects to understand the relationship between multilingual language use and cognitive control ability.

Our research methods:

We use multiple techniques to explore the above research themes, including behavioral, eye-tracking, peripheral psychophysiological, and neurophysiological measures.

Meet the Lab

Students in the BEACON Lab come from multiple majors and backgrounds across the Claremont Colleges. They complete independent studies, senior theses, and even work as research assistants on specific lab-wide research projects.
